Hayden Rickard was born and raised in Oamaru, New Zealand. Involved in the sport of Rugby Union at an early age and exposed to Rowing as a teenager, many of Hayden's coaches during these formative years left an impression, so much, that in the future he would become a coach to give back to sport and to leave an experience for others that he had through his coaches.
In 2005 Hayden's pursuit of coaching moved forward through a Rugby 7's Coaching appointment. A willingness to learn about the coaching craft, Hayden set about gaining coach education and seeking out mentors.
Appointments in Rugby Union across Australia, New Zealand and the United States of America lead to an acute awareness of what team culture worked in this setting.
An opportunity to design and deliver an Australian Football based Social Program confirmed this culture based approach.
